Before you replace it
Lock Repair in Dallas-Fort Worth
A sticking key or a deadbolt that only turns when you push the door needs a closer look. We check the key, cylinder, hinges, latch, and strike to find what’s causing the trouble. If a repair will hold up, we’ll explain it before recommending new hardware.
Keys That Stick
We check the key and cylinder when a lock is stiff even with the door open. Forcing it can snap a key.
Doors That Won’t Latch
If you have to shove or lift the door to lock it, an adjustment at the hinges or strike may be the fix.
Loose or Broken Hardware
A spinning handle, damaged latch, or broken key may be repairable without replacing the entire lock.
Repair or Replace
If the lock is worn out, we'll explain why replacing it is a better fix than another short-lived repair.

Finding the Cause of a Sticking Lock
Is it the key or the door?
A lock that turns easily with the door open but binds when you shut it usually points to the latch or bolt hitting the strike.
If the key catches even with the door open, the key or cylinder may be worn. Don’t force it: a snapped key makes the job harder.
Why the latch misses
Loose hinges, a shifted frame, or a strike that’s slightly out of line can keep a deadbolt from extending fully. Having to lift the door is a clue, not a fix.
We check how the door closes and where the bolt lands before adjusting or replacing lock parts.
Repair when it makes sense
A new key, tightened handle, strike adjustment, or compatible replacement part may be all a sound lock needs.
When a cylinder is badly worn or the lock body is damaged, a replacement may hold up better than another repair. We’ll explain why before changing it.
Test with the door shut
A lock can feel fine when the door is open and still bind every evening when you close it. We test it shut, from both sides, before we’re done.
If the trouble comes and goes, tell us what you notice. A key that sticks after rain or a latch that misses on hot afternoons can help us find the cause.

Questions About a Sticking Lock?
Why does my lock stick or turn hard?
If it turns freely with the door open but binds when shut, the latch or bolt may be hitting the strike. If it sticks while open too, the key or cylinder may be worn. We'll check both.
Can a lock be repaired instead of replaced?
Often. A strike adjustment, new key, tightened handle, or replacement part may be enough for a sound lock. If the cylinder or lock body is worn out, we'll explain why replacement makes more sense.
Why does my deadbolt only work when I push on the door?
The deadbolt may be catching on the strike because the door has shifted or the hinges are loose. We’ll check the alignment and the lock before recommending a repair.
Can you fix a key that keeps getting stuck?
Yes. A worn key and a worn cylinder need different fixes. Don't force a stuck key; it can snap inside. We can inspect both and tell you whether a new key or a lock repair is needed.
How do I know when a lock should be replaced?
If the lock is damaged, badly worn, or still unreliable after the key and door alignment are checked, replacement may be the better fix. We'll show you what's failing first.
